Not Art Exhibition Coming to Chicago!
Apparently even New York art critics are getting confused about what makes something art and what doesn’t. Coming hot on the heels of Troy Schulze’s terrible review for the Houston Press, Ken Johnson of the New York Times also seems confused about what art is and can be. Johnson visited and reviewed the New Museum’s exhibition “The Three M Project” which contains artwork (though Johnson has his qualms) by Mathias Poledna, Daria Martin, and Jeremy Deller.
Fortunately for us here in Chicago we’ll have the chance to see this work itself, as the MCA is one of the three museums that commissioned this work and organized the touring exhibition. According to the MCA’s site the exhibition will arrive in the “Fall, 2009.”
After you read Johnson, Greg Allen has his own response here.
